1. It's the only computer that officially supports all major operating systems, maximizing compatibility. (LOL, but still technically true)
2. It offers the power and portability that you require.
3. It offers the durability you require.
4. It offers the battery life you require.
5. It has a high enough resolution for high productivity, required for serious research computing (assuming you get a retina. Also, to some degree, this is bullshit, but it looks good on paper).
